Is the royal family of Qatar taking over Balmain?

Rumor has it that Mayhoola for Investments, owned by the Qatari Al-Thani family, have made an approach to acquire Balmain. Reports in the French newspaper ‘Les Echos’ stated that the Investment entity has offered $569 million for the French luxury label.

While many designers are criticised for casting mainly white models in their shows, the “Balmain army”, as Rousteing calls them, are always ethnically diverse.

Sheikha Mozah, who chairs the Qatar Luxury Group, hopes to turn Qatar into a source of not only buying luxury fashion, but also manufacturing high-end design. After taking over control of Le Tanneur & Cie, Valentino and Anya Hindmarch and other luxury brands, the firm is widely believed to hold close ties with Sheikha Mozah whose clothes she wears reflects a broader investment strategy of the wealthy Gulf state.
